We will taste our way along much of the Kimmeridgian Trail, a limestone layer deposited during the Jurassic age that begins in Dover, England, crops out in France in the Loire Valley, Champagne, Chablis, the Cote d'Or and terminates in Italy (the Piedmont). What are the beneficial effects of limestone-rich soil in these cooler climate regions? Grape types represented in the tasting include Melon (Muscadet), Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir. Matt Cory, who conceived this intriguing topic, is a true wine lover and a very knowledgeable guide. Matt will lead our investigation into fascinating questions of “terroir” and will discuss these exciting wines from famous French wine regions--and will welcome your questions and comments. |
