November White Wine of the Month
New Age White, Valentin
Bianchi. Argentina
Delightful aromas of
fresh flowers and lively fruit flavors. An exciting and delicious wine
in a new style.
A lightly sweet and barely bubbly blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Malvasia
Bianca. It’s fun to drink by
itself and very nice with many dishes including spicy Thai, Indian or
Chinese cuisine.
Stilton with lemon zest. A good Thanksgiving Day wine. It’s only
9.5% alcohol.
Viognier 2008, Le Paradou. Provence, France
A fresh, lush
Viognier from the southern Rhône. Peach and floral
aromas. Mineral citrus and spicy white
peach flavors. Fruit and acidity are nicely balanced,
giving a fresh clean finish. Food friendly.
Pair with leaner white fish and light shellfish dishes. Chicken and
pork, especially with a fruit component.
Sauvignon Blanc 2009, Spy Valley. Marlborough, New Zealand
A truly elegant New
Zealand Sauvignon Blanc with classy, grassy herbal aromas and lots of
apricot,
lime, grapefruit and mineral flavors. Bright, lively and distinctive.
Shellfish, chicken, asparagus,
green salads. Fol Epi cheese. Greenhill soft-ripening cheese from
Sweetgrass Dairy (Georgia).
Dornfelder 2009, J Simon. Mosel, Germany
The wine is pleasantly
sweet ---well-balanced with bright acidity, showing aromas and flavors
of
cherry, plum and blackberry. A deep red, cross-bred grape developed in
Germany and released for
cultivation in 1979. It is now Germany’s second most grown red grape .
Goes nicely with spicy dishes,
pizza, pasta and many dishes according to your taste. And it
would be a nice match with turkey dark meat.
Fol Epi, Vermont Smoked Cheddar
Pinot Noir 2009, Heron. California
Heron Pinot Noir 2009
shows a depth and complexity of aroma and flavor that is extraordinary
in this price range. Rich red cherry fruit, with notes of earth,
smoke and black pepper.
Laely Heron has used high quality Pinot Noir grapes from Paso Robles.
Steaks, grilled meats. Da Vinci cheese. Smoked Cheddar. A lovely red for
Thanksgiving turkey.
November
Red Wine of the Month
Old Vines Zinfandel
2007, St Francis Winery. Sonoma California
A terrific spicy,
full-bodied Zinfandel from vines more than 50 years old, head trained
and dry farmed.
The grapes are from multiple vineyards in Sonoma County, some vineyards
have field blends with small amounts of Petite Sirah and Alicante
Bouschet. This Zin shows aromas and flavors of ripe black cherries
and boysenberries with hints of anise and toasty American oak easing
into a lingering finish. Wow! Beef Wellington, roast leg of lamb, game
birds. Cheeses: Smoked Cheddar, Aged Gouda. Blue Castello.
Thanksgiving—a great American wine for a great American holiday!
Cheers,
